Ukraine responds to Berlusconi: “He spreads Russian propaganda”

Against the former prime minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi is turned Ukraine accusing him of spreading Russian propaganda, after he said that he would not seek a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky if he were still prime minister.

Berlusconi, 86, often boasted of his friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin before Russia invaded Ukraine last year.

In his statements yesterday, Sunday (12/2), Berlusconi said that all he had to do Zelensky to prevent war in Ukraine was to “stop attacking” territory controlled by Russian-backed separatists in the eastern part of the country, and described the Ukrainian president’s behavior as “very, very negative”.

Berlusconi’s ridiculous accusations against the Ukrainian president are an attempt to kiss Putin’s hands, which are covered in blood up to the elbowsOleh Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, said, according to the Athens News Agency.

“At the same time, the Italian prime minister should understand that by spreading Russian propaganda he is encouraging Russia to continue its crimes against Ukraine and therefore bears political and moral responsibility,” he said.

He accused Berlusconi of trying to show loyalty “to the Russian dictator” and drew a parallel with the former Italian prime minister’s relationship with late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Nikolenko also released a photo of Berlusconi kissing Gaddafi’s hand in 2010.

Nikolenko welcomed the statement from the office of current Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, which reiterated the government’s “firm and confident” support for Ukraine.
