Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear company Energoatom said on Saturday that it had helped restore an internet connection between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and servers at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which has been occupied by Russian forces since March.
In the statement, Energoatom states that the connection to the plant’s servers was lost on May 30, but was re-established on June 10, allowing the IAEA to resume monitoring data on the control of nuclear material at the plant.
Zaporizhzhia is north of the besieged city of Mariupol, a port city in southeastern Ukraine occupied by Russian troops. The plant is the largest of its kind in all of Europe and was targeted by a Russian offensive in March and has since had communication problems.
Despite the bombing attempt, with the record of a fire in its vicinity, there was no reported change in the radioactivity levels of the plant.
