“It was not Ukraine that chose the path of war, but Ukraine proposes a return to the path of peace,” Zelensky said in a video message.
The Ukrainian president also spoke about a new Iron Curtain that now separates Russia from the “civilized world”.
Zelensky said he was “hearing” the sound of this new iron curtain falling as Russian troops advanced into his country, and warned that other European countries might follow.
“What we are hearing today is not just explosions of missiles, battles and aircraft. It is the sound of a new iron curtain falling and excluding Russia from the civilized world,” he said in a videotaped speech.
“Our national duty is to make sure that this curtain does not fall on our country,” he added.
