Ukraine: Rocket attack on an apartment building in Donetsk

At least 15 people have been killed, six rescued and another 25 feared trapped in the rubble of a five-story apartment building in Donetsk that was hit by Russian Uragan rockets, local officials said.

THE Ukraine it also reported clashes with Russian troops on fronts in the east and south, while Moscow said its forces hit Ukrainian army depots storing M777 howitzers near Kontantinovka in the Donetsk region.

Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kirilenko said the attack on the apartment building took place on Saturday afternoon in the city of Chasiv Yar. The regional emergency service gave the death toll at 15:00 on Sunday afternoon, adding that they could 25 more people still under the rubble mincluding a 9-year-old child.

Kirilenko wrote on Telegram that rescuers in Chasiv Yar had cleared nearly 99 tons of debris from the site of the collapsed apartment building and that rescue operations were continuing.

Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff of President Zelensky in a post on Telegram spoke of “another terrorist attack» according to Reuters and as relayed by ERT. Russia, which says it is conducting a “special military operation” in Ukraine, has consistently denied attacking civilians.

In the south, Ukrainian forces fired missiles at Russian positions including ammunition depots in the Chornobaivka region, Ukraine’s military command said.
