Ukraine: Russia ‘has already lost strategically’, says Britain’s General Staff

Russia has already “strategically lost” the war in Ukraine and “will never take control” of the country, said yesterday the head of the General Staff of the British Armed Forces, Admiral Tony Radkin.

“President (Russian Vladimir Putin) Putin used 25% of his army force to secure tiny territorial gains,” the top US official said in an interview with the PA Media news agency, which aired today.

“Any claim that Russia succeeds does not make sense. Russia is going to lose,” he said.

“He may have some regular success in the coming weeks,” he acknowledged.

“But Russia has already lost at the strategic level,” he said, stressing that “NATO is stronger”, while “Finland and Sweden are seeking to join” the military alliance.

According to the British admiral, Kyiv “will never lose control of Ukraine.”

Almost four months after the start of the Russian invasion, the Russian army “will soon have a shortage of men and advanced missiles,” Radakin assured.

His remarks came as Kiev’s forces pounded in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, and Kyiv repeatedly demanded “more heavy weapons” from its allies. On Tuesday, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said her country had received only “about 10%” of the weapons it needed.

“It’s hard for Ukraine, but it will be a long battle,” said Admiral Radakin. He recalled that Britain was “ready” to support the Ukrainian army “in the long run”.

London said on Wednesday it would begin delivering “immediate” GMLRS multi-missile launch systems to Ukraine, asking for such systems because they have a more effective range than Russian artillery.

“We will also supply anti-tank weapons and other equipment and this will continue,” Radakin said.

The United States announced a new $ 1 billion military aid package to Ukraine on Wednesday, which includes mostly artillery pieces and shells.
