Ukraine: Russia is trying to provoke our army to attack

Ukraine’s top security official Oleski Danilov today accused Russia of provoking eastern Ukraine in an attempt to provoke the Ukrainian army to respond, but Ukraine will insist on peaceful ways to defuse the crisis, he said.

In a joint statement, the Minister of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Irina Verestsuk said that Russia is trying to force Ukraine to make concessions.

Danilov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), said there were no orders for Donbass to be released from Kiev. Danilov said Ukraine had no plans to forcibly liberate the separatists’ occupied territories, adding that a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine was unlikely.

“Supposedly, our army is going to attack Donetsk and Luhansk, ostensibly to liberate our territories. I can tell you that all this is completely untrue, there are no orders to liberate our territories by force. In addition, we know that, “If a decision is made to liberate these territories, there will be serious losses among the civilian population, there can be no such order in our country,” Danilov said today during a briefing.

He said Russia had leaked reports of deliberate attack plans to provoke the Ukrainian military into “the answers they wanted to give”.

“Troops can not open fire if there is a threat to the lives of our soldiers,” Danilov said.

The leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, said earlier today that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would soon order the army to launch an attack on Donetsk to carry out an invasion of the of Luhansk.
