Ukraine says army controls 74 settlements in Russia’s Kursk region

Ukraine said on Tuesday (13) that the army had taken control of 74 settlements in Russia’s southern Kursk region.

This comes during the largest cross-border incursion that has advanced 3 kilometers in the last 24 hours.

President Volodymyr Zelensky told Army Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi in a video message that Kiev’s military had seized 40 square kilometers of new territory in the past 24 hours.

Zelensky thanked his troops for taking new Russian prisoners of war.

“Thank you for securing more prisoners, this is important so that we can exchange them for our people,” Zelensky said.

Ukraine surprised Moscow by sending thousands of troops into Russia’s western Kursk region last week in a surprise operation that Kiev said saw its forces seize 1,000 square kilometers of land, their biggest gains since 2022.
