The Security Services of Ukraine (SBU) claim to have intercepted a phone call that proves that Russia is responsible for the destruction of the New Kakhovka dam.
In a social network, the organization published an audio, with about 90 seconds, during which a Russian military admits that a group of saboteurs loyal to the Kremlin was the author of the explosion.
“It wasn’t them [ucranianos] who did. Our sabotage group is there. They wanted to scare people with this dam. It didn’t go as planned. They had more than expected”, they say in the conversation, claims the SBU, which has already opened an investigation into the case.
“By blowing up the dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, the Russian Federation has finally proved that it is a threat to the entire civilized world. After all, only a true terrorist state can cause a human and environmental catastrophe of this magnitude. And it will definitely be held responsible for this fact,” said Vasyl Malyuk, director of the agency, quoted in the note published on social networks.
The British newspaper The Guardian published the transcript of the call:
Person 1: “News. Yesterday there was a video on a Telegram channel – there was a soldier, with his face covered, in uniform. And he says that there are no floods, that people are living normally. And behind it, there’s a window and you can see knee-deep water.”
Person 2: “It is funny. Is it about the fact that the hydroelectric plant was destroyed?”
Person 1: “Yes. The main problem is that the hydroelectric plant cools the nuclear reactor.”
Person 2: “It doesn’t matter. They did it to themselves. It’s going to explode and that’s it.”
Person 1: “It was our teammates who did this. It wasn’t them, it was ours.”
Person 2: “Seriously, was it ours? Said it was the Khokhols [termo depreciativo para os ucranianos] who broke her.”
Person 1: “It wasn’t them [ucranianos] who did. Our sabotage group is there. They wanted to scare people with this dam. It didn’t go as planned. They got more than expected.”
Person 2: “It’s going to be like Chernobyl, isn’t it?”
Person 1: “Built in the 1950s. It went down fast, it went down.”
