Ukraine seeks ‘long-term solutions’ to win war against Russia

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who is holding talks with the G7 and NATO countries on Thursday, said his country was looking for “long-term solutions” to help it win the war. against Russia.

“I came here today to discuss three most important things: guns, guns and guns. Ukraine’s urgent needs, sustainability of supplies and long-term solutions that will help Ukraine prevail,” Kuleba wrote on social media.

Ukraine will also maintain demands for a full oil and gas embargo from Russia, Kuleba added. The European Union has promised a new round of sanctions by Friday (8).

The Ukrainian minister will address NATO’s 30 allies, as well as the European Union, Finland, Sweden, Japan, New Zealand and Australia, at a special session of foreign ministers on international support for sanctions and arms supplies.

“I think the deal that Ukraine is offering is fair. You give us weapons, we sacrifice our lives and the war is contained in Ukraine,” he said.

Kuleba urged Germany, in particular, to speed up arms deliveries, asking for planes, missiles, armored vehicles and air defense systems. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock offered to hold another meeting of NATO foreign ministers in May in Berlin.

After more than 40 days of war, Ukraine says Russia continues to bomb its cities, mainly in the east, in Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk, after Russian forces withdrew from Kiev.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned on Wednesday that the war could last for months or even years and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken pledged long-term support to Ukraine.

Outrage over the killings of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, near Kiev, appears to have bolstered Western support.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said a fifth package of EU sanctions, which includes a coal ban, would be announced by the end of this week. “We’ve taken a progressive approach,” he told reporters.
