Ukraine: Seven civilians dead, two injured in Donetsk region

At least 7 civilians were killed and two others were injured today by Russian strikes in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, the governor of Donetsk, Pavlo Kirilenko, announced today.

“The Russians killed 7 civilians,” three in the city of Toretsk, two in Avdiivka, one in Kotema and one in Siversk, the Ukrainian official said in a Telegram message, without elaborating.

Artillery fire and multiple rocket launchers hit several areas of the region, the Ukrainian presidency announced this morning, citing local authorities.

The Russians, who say they have control of the entire neighboring Luhansk region, are now seeking to conquer that of Donetsk in order to take all of the Donbass valley, which Moscow-backed separatists currently control partly since 2014.

In the Donetsk region, the city of Sloviansk is seen as the next possible target for Russian forces as part of their plan to capture the entire Donbass valley, nearly four and a half months after they invaded Ukraine.

On Tuesday, Russian rockets hit a market in the center of Sloviansk and surrounding streets, killing at least 2 people.
