Ukraine will suspend some Russian gas exports to Europe flowing in pipelines across the country due to disruptions at key transit points, the country’s gas transmission system operator (GSTOU) said in a statement on Tuesday. .
Amid the Russian invasion, Ukraine continued its Russian gas transport operations across the country as normal.
But the GSTOU said it is currently “impossible to fulfill obligations” with European partners due to “interference from the occupation forces”. The operator said Russian interference, including the unauthorized supply of gas, “has jeopardized the stability and security” of the Ukrainian gas transport system.
As a result, it decided to suspend operations from 7:00 am local time (1:00 am GMT) this Wednesday (11) at the gas station at the Sokhranivka entry point and at the Novopskov border compression station, through the which almost a third of the gas from Russia to Europe – up to 32.6 million cubic meters per day – is transported.
Ukraine said it could temporarily transfer unavailable capacity from Sokhranivka to Sudzha point, located in eastern Ukraine.
However, Russian state energy company Gazprom said it was “technologically impossible” to shift gas shipments to Ukraine to a new entry point, it said in a statement.
