Ukraine: The armed forces are ready to repel any attack on the country

The Ukrainian government on Saturday urged citizens to remain calm and united, stressing that the armed forces were ready to repel any attack on the country amid concerns that Russia might be ready to invade, according to Reuters.

“It is now crucial that we remain calm and united inside the country and avoid actions that undermine stability and sow panic,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

“Ukraine’s Armed Forces are constantly monitoring developments and are ready to repel any encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he added.

Russia has deployed more than 100,000 troops near its border with Ukraine, and the United States said Friday that an invasion could come at any time. Washington has also called on its citizens in Ukraine to leave as soon as possible, with countries such as Britain, Japan and Australia making similar appeals.

Moscow denies plans to invade, saying it is defending its own interests from NATO’s aggressive stance.

US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will hold talks today, Saturday, while US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also said he would speak with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
