There is “little” chance of more survivors being pulled from the wreckage of an apartment building in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro that was hit by a Russian missile attack yesterday, the city’s mayor said in an interview with Reuters today.
“I think the chances of saving people are now slim. By 11:00, 21 people are dead, but 40 are missing,” said Boris Filatov.
“God help us find enough of them. I think the death toll will be dozens.”
The City Council of Dnipro reported after the mayor’s statements that the death toll rose to 23, while 43 people are missing.
As Filatov spoke, rescuers continued to search for survivors. The mayor said 72 apartments were destroyed.
Filatov said he believed the missile was likely aimed at a nearby power station.
“But the missile went through and hit a residential building,” he said.
