Ukraine: The country’s reconstruction chief resigned

A senior Ukrainian official in charge of reconstruction and known for his reform efforts resigned today, citing budget cuts and bureaucratic delays, as Kiev seeks significant foreign investment to rebuild the country after Russia’s invasion. Mustafa Nagyem, who headed the State Agency for Rehabilitation and Development of Infrastructure, submitted his resignation a day before a major international conference was to be held in Berlin to secure international support for the reconstruction of Ukraine. “I made this decision because of the systemic obstacles that do not allow me to carry out my duties effectively,” he said in a post on the Telegram application. “Beginning last year in November, the Service team began to face constant backlash, resistance and the creation of artificial obstacles,” he said, including delays in payments for the construction of anti-tank projects.
