Ukraine: The head of an organization that helps Belarusian self-exiles was found hanged in a park

The director of a non-governmental organization that helps persecuted Belarusians has been found dead in Kiev. Police have launched a homicide investigation into the incident.

“Belarus citizen Vitaly Sisov, who went missing in Kiev yesterday, was found hanged today in a park in Kiev, near his residence,” police said in a statement.

The disappearance of Vitaly Sisov, the head of the House of Belarus in Ukraine (BDU), was initially reported by his partner yesterday after he did not return to their home after his morning jogging.

THE Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania have become “safe havens” for Belarusians following the crackdown on opposition protests by President Alexander Lukashenko. The BDU is helping Belarussian exiles find housing, employment and legal advice.
