The Ukrainian military says two soldiers were killed and four others wounded in a bombing by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine on Saturday, according to Reuters.
The Ukrainian army said on its Facebook page that it had recorded 70 ceasefire violations by separatists since the beginning of the day, compared to 66 cases in the past 24 hours.
The separatists opened fire on more than 30 settlements along the front line using heavy artillery, which has been banned by agreements aimed at halting the long-running conflict, the military said.
A group of lawmakers and foreign media who visited the conflict zone came under fire and had to be evacuated to a shelter, a spokesman for President Volodymyr Zelensky’s party said in a separate statement on Saturday.
Separatist officials accused Ukraine on the social networking site Telegram of bombing separatist-controlled areas and said they should respond accordingly.
Incidents of bombings along the line separating government forces and separatists have risen sharply this week, with the Ukrainian government calling it a provocation. He vehemently denied Russia’s suggestions that Kiev could launch an attack on eastern Ukraine.
