Ukraine: Two soldiers killed by pro-Russian separatist fire

Two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and four others were wounded by gunfire pro-Russian separatists in the Donetsk region, in the east Ukraine, announced Kiev on Monday.

The press office of the Ukrainian army reported that the separatists opened fire on six different cases in the last 24 hours, against positions of the Ukrainian forces.

A military doctor, 59, succumbed to his injuries after being hit by shrapnel. Another soldier is treated injured, but without risking his life, according to the same source.

On Sunday night, the Ukrainian army announced that one another soldier was killed and three were injured, according to ΑΠΕ ΜΠΕ.

It is recalled that clashes with separatists in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions broke out in 2014, shortly after the annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia.

To date more than have been killed in this war 13,000 people, according to estimates by international news agencies.

After truce which, in general, was observed in the second half of 2020, the tension intensified again this year, 100,000 Russian soldiers on the border with Ukraine.

Although Moscow announced that it was withdrawing its units, this withdrawal was limited area, as claimed by Kiev and Western countries.

Russia insists that its support for the separatist regions is only policy, but Ukraine and its Western allies complain that Moscow sends soldiers and weapons to the pro-Russian guerrillas.
