Germany will further develop its air force in Lithuania and the United States will send an infantry battalion with armor, said Defense Minister Arvinda Anusauskas.
The deployment of these forces, which includes additional troops from the Netherlands, is not related to the troops expected in Lithuania for the military exercises that the country will host in March, he added.
With these forces, but also with those who will participate in the high schools, the total number of NATO foreign forces in Lithuania will increase to 4,000 by the end of March, from the current 3,000, Anusauskas said.
Lithuania has called on NATO to increase its forces and equipment in the country following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
