The Kremlin said on Friday (12) it had taken note of statements by some Western countries at this week’s NATO summit allowing Kiev to use weapons supplied to attack Russian territory, in a move it called a dangerous escalation.
Ukraine’s top presidential aide Andriy Yermak called on Thursday (11) for an end to restrictions imposed on the use of weapons supplied by allies against targets inside Russia, saying it would be a “game changer” in the fight against Moscow.
“We see statements from representatives of some capitals, London and so on, that they do not see any restrictions in this regard, and we see countries that are trying to maintain a balance and say that they are against such relaxation of the terms of use of long-range missiles,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Peskov said Moscow believes such weapons were already being used to attack Russian soil.
“But in the end, the main thing is that these missiles are already reaching our territory… As for increasing this distance, this is pure provocation, a new and very dangerous escalation of tension,” Peskov said.
