Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom (UK) has announced that Ukraine plans to buy more Turkish drones amid the Russian invasion.
The Ukrainian ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vadim Pristaiko, said Ukraine had already contacted Turkish officials to buy more Bayraktar TB2 drones in the midst of the Russian invasion, the Turkish BBC reported.
“We do not have our own attack drone, we are trying to produce a type we call a kamikaze drone. By the way, we are using reconnaissance drones from different countries,” Pristaiko told British journalists.
“We are in contact with Turkey. Turkey is providing us with these drones, but we are still a long way from using them effectively. We have not reached a sufficient scale. We have several drone pilots and they are currently being trained in Turkey,” he said. said Pristaikos.
The TB-2 has become a symbol of Turkey as a drone force after the overthrow of the war in Libya and the reinforcement of Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020.
Ukraine first used the Bayraktar TB2 drone against pro-Russian separatist forces in eastern Ukraine in October, angering the Kremlin. In response, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu urged Russia to consider the Ukrainian drones as belonging to Kyiv, saying that Turkey was simply exporting the technology and could not control how it was used.
On February 3, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed an agreement on the joint production of Bayraktar drones in Ukraine. Since the start of the war last Thursday, Ukrainian officials have released videos depicting TB-2 airstrikes on Russian military positions.
