Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has accused Russia of war crimes after attacking civilian targets. He said Moscow would have to face a “military court”.
During a press conference on Saturday (26), Shmyhal said that Russia had bombed kindergartens, residential blocks and “buses with children”.
“For these crimes, the Russian command will certainly see a military tribunal. The enemy will certainly be punished for killing Ukrainian children. Ukraine will not forgive them for that,” Shmyhal said.
The prime minister said Russia is deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure because it is “failing” in its offensive.
“The Russian government does not understand that it is not just fighting with the government. In fact, it is fighting the entire Ukrainian people,” he said.
Russia said its forces were only targeting military installations and not residential areas.
After a government meeting on Saturday, Shmyhal announced that Ukraine is temporarily closing its borders with Belarus and Russia, except for Ukrainian nationals abroad, whom he asked to join the fight.
“Please come back and prove you are on the light side. And I am addressing all civilized countries: which side are you on?” asked Shmyhal.
“Are you on the side of the child killers or are you on the side of the great European people who are defending their country and defending their freedom from aggression?”
