Ukraine expects to acquire the advanced German IRIS-T air defense system in August, the country’s ambassador to Germany, Andrij Melnyk, was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.
The system can defend an area equal to Kyiv from air strikes.
Ukraine wants to deploy such systems near major cities within the next three to four years, said Melnyk, who has regularly criticized the German government for its reluctance to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba wrote on Twitter that he had a telephone conversation with his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau to discuss the next delivery of heavy weapons and the seventh package of EU sanctions against Russia.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian lawmaker Fedir Venislavsky said the country was taking all necessary measures to rescue two Britons and a Moroccan who had been arrested by Russia and sentenced to death.
