Ukraine will not agree to maintain a “frozen” conflict with Russia, said Ukrainian presidency chief Andriy Yermak, on Thursday, after Kiev and Washington set a 30-day ceasefire in the war jointly.
Ukraine accuses Russia of trying to create a frozen conflict – that is, that is not properly resolved and continues with occasional eruptions – since 2014, when Moscow attached the Crimea Peninsula and sent representatives to East Ukraine.
“We said very clearly that we would never agree with a frozen conflict,” said Yermak, referring to discussions between Ukraine and the US in Jeddah, and adding that the US was also against the idea.
Speaking of television, Yermak said Ukraine had agreed with the US that representatives of Europe would definitely participate in the peace process.
“The main thing is that Ukraine is not alone, Ukraine is with its partners.”
“We agree with our American partners who representing Europe will definitely participate in the peace process,” he said.
