Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that Ukraine would support a proposal from the United States to stop his attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure-but warned that Russians were trying to delay US-led negotiations and weaken Kiev by making new demands.
“Our side [apoiaria] That, ”said Zelensky, after being questioned by a reporter.
The statement was made a few hours after the White House announced that Russia President Vladimir Putin agreed with US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a one -month stoppage in the attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Putin and Trump talked over a few hours, earlier on Tuesday.
Ukraine used long -range combat drones to attack the Russian oil infrastructure, such as refineries, in an effort to harm its much larger enemy, which launched missiles and drones far behind the front lines in Ukraine since the large -scale invasion of February 2022.
In particular, Russian attacks have reached Ukrainian energy plants, causing large -scale blackouts and, more recently, also places for natural gas production.
Zelensky said he would support any proposal that would lead to “stable and fair peace.”
Moscow did not give Washington the total unconditional ceasefire of 30 days he had sought.
Zelensky said he believed Russia clearly opposed the proposal, with which Kiev agreed, in principle, during last week’s negotiations with US authorities in Jeddah.
The Ukrainian leader told reporters that Russia had launched more than 1,300 guided bombs, eight missiles and nearly 600 long -range attacks in Ukraine since negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
Ukraine herself proposed the idea of ceasing to energy infrastructure during negotiations, he added.
“This was part of our proposal for the sky and the sea.
Telephone diplomacy
Zelensky said that after Putin and Trump’s call, he spoke by phone with France President Emmanuel Macron and Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz, both important European allies.
“I think it will be correct to have a conversation with President Trump and know in detail what the Russians offered to Americans or what the Americans offered to the Russians,” he said.
He also told reporters that he hoped Kiev’s partners would not cut vital military assistance to Ukraine.
“We are in constant communication. I am confident that there will be no betrayal of our partners and that assistance will continue,” he said.
He made the comment when asked about a previous comment from Putin, who emphasized that any resolution of the conflict would require the end of all military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine.
Zelensky said Putin’s demand, as well as another that seeks to restrict Ukraine’s campaign to recruit civilians to the Armed Forces, seemed to weaken Ukraine.
