Ukraine: Zaporizhia pro-Russian administration ‘nationalizes’ Ukrainian state assets

The pro-Russian administration in the Moscow-controlled Zaporizhia region of southeastern Ukraine announced today that it is taking control of state-owned assets, such as strategic companies, land and natural resources owned by the Ukrainian state.

“The liberated region of Zaporizhia nationalizes the property of the Ukrainian state. The decree was signed by the head of the military-political administration of the region,” one of the members of this administration, Vladimir Rogov, told the Telegram.

Russia occupied the province of Kherson in March and controls parts of the province of Zaporizhia.

According to Russian agencies, citing Andrei Trofimov, the deputy governor of Zaporizhia, the head of the military-political administration, Evgeny Balitsky, signed the decree on the nationalization of property belonging to Ukraine until February 24. This measure concerns “land, natural resources, infrastructure of the strategic sectors of the economy”. He did not say whether the infrastructure included the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest Russian-controlled nuclear power plant in Europe.

Ukrainian forces still control the eponymous capital of the province.

One of the Russian negotiators said on Wednesday that the referendum on the annexation of the occupied territories to Russia may be held in July.
