Ukraine: Zelensky appeals to French mayors to help his country ‘survive the winter’

The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky called on French mayors today to offer help to his country to prevent Russia from using this winter’s cold “as a weapon of mass destruction» in his message broadcast during the conference of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) in Paris.

“The Kremlin wants to turn the winter cold into a weapon of mass destruction“, the Ukrainian president said in his subtitled message during a tribute to Ukraine at the conference of the Union of Mayors of of Francewhich was attended by a Ukrainian delegation.

“To survive this winter and not allow the Russia to turn the cold into a tool of terror and subjugation, we need many things,” Zelensky explained, citing mainly “generators,” “assistance in demining (and) equipment for firefighters, rescuers and doctors.”

“I urge you to be very specific in helping and supporting our cities and communities from terrorism.”he added according to the Athens News Agency.

AMF President David Lisnar (a member of the right-wing Republican Party) who had traveled to Ukraine in the first weeks after the start of the Russian invasion, had invited Ukrainian elected officials to the Union’s convention to express to them “admiration, solidarity and support» them.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sandovy, who is part of the Ukrainian delegation present at the conference, earlier praised Lisnar because “he was one of the first foreign politicians to visit Ukraine” and thus “sealed an immortal friendship between French and Ukrainian citizens».
