After the uproar caused in Ukraine by the announcement of the military leadership about the movement of reservists and conscripts outside their place of residence, President Volodymyr Zelensky reprimanded his staff.
At the next meeting with the general staff, his chief and the defense minister will be asked to give a detailed report on the matter, the 44-year-old head of state said in his evening speech on Tuesday.
“I promise the citizens that I will clarify the issue and furthermore, I will emphasize to the general staff not to make such decisions without me.”
He added that there is “confusion” and “indignation” in Ukrainian society.
Earlier, Valery Zaluzny and the staff announced that those Ukrainians who have been drafted need permission to leave the place where they are registered citizens.
After criticism on social networking sites, it was announced that a permit was required to leave the district.
The staff is based on a 1992 legal rule.
Ukrainians between the ages of 18 and 60 are subject to military service and are not allowed to leave the country after martial law is imposed. From October, women in certain professions will also be required to serve in the Ukrainian armed forces.
