Ukraine: Zelensky thanked Berlin for the defense aid it agreed to provide to his country

Zelensky said the two leaders also discussed other issues of defense cooperation, without elaborating.

According to the chancellery’s statement, Zelensky and Solz discussed the situation in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian president thanked Germany for the Marder tanks and other equipment it will make available to Kyiv.

In a joint statement with the US on Thursday, Germany announced it would deliver tanks and a Patriot anti-aircraft system to Ukraine. Earlier today, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said she had spoken with her American counterpart, Lloyd Austin, so that the two countries could coordinate sending military aid to Ukraine. “Together with our allies, we continue to support Ukraine, with unity, solidarity and close coordination,” Lambrecht said.

France also announced this week that it will send AMX-10 RC light tanks to Ukraine.

Zelensky also said he met in Kyiv with two US senators, Jack Reed and Angus King, with whom he discussed the situation at the front and “the risk of possible escalation”, hours after the unilateral ceasefire announced by Russia began.
