The issue of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union “is not for tomorrow”, said French Minister for European Affairs Clement Bon, as EU leaders gathered in France to discuss the crisis caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“It will take time,” Bonn said, referring to discussions in international political circles as to whether or not Ukraine would be given a quick entry into the EU as a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine in light of the Russian invasion.
European Union leaders will phase out the Russian oil, gas and coal market as the Moscow war in Ukraine makes them realize they should be less dependent on Russia, a draft statement has shown, but it is unlikely to offer Ukraine the rapid EU membership it seeks.
