French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday that Ukraine will have to hold talks with Russia at some point in order to try to end the war between the two countries.
“The Ukrainian president and his officials will have to negotiate with Russia,” Macron said during a visit to Romania and Moldova.
Macron arrived in Romania on Tuesday (14) for a three-day trip to the southern flank of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), including Moldova.
On Thursday, Macron is likely to head to Kiev on a visit to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, two diplomatic sources said.
Macron was criticized by Ukraine and its Eastern European allies for what they perceived as his ambiguous support for Ukraine in the war against Russia.
