One of Ukraine's most famous basketball players and coaches was killed in Russian missile strikes early Friday morning, Ukrainian authorities said.
Viktor Kobzystyi – who played for Ukraine twice at the European Championships and later became one of the top coaches who twice won the Ukrainian national championship – was killed in Lviv, according to the Basketball Federation of Ukraine.
Anton Nikulin, an official at Lviv city hall, also confirmed Kobzystyi's death.
Over a six-hour period on Friday, Russia attacked the western city of Lviv with at least 15 missiles and 14 drones, according to Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the city region's military administration. Ten of the missiles were intercepted.
At least 17 people, including a child, were injured, and five people were hospitalized, authorities said.
