The city of Mariupol, in southern Ukraine, is at risk of a major outbreak of cholera. Health services are likely on the brink of collapse, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.
There is likely also a critical shortage of medicines in Kherson, the UK Ministry of Defense said in a Twitter post on Friday.
Russia is facing difficulties, in the territories it occupied, to provide public services considered basic to the population, such as water, electricity, and public health, he added.
Last month, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) incident manager in Ukraine, Dorit Nitzan, said that Mariupol, which is now controlled by Russian forces after weeks of siege and heavy bombing, was among the occupied areas where there was a risk of cholera.
