THE Ukraine has become a “de facto” member of it NATO Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov pointed out on Friday (13/1), whose army is facing a “high-intensity” attack on the eastern city of Solendar.
During an interview with the BBC, the Ukrainian minister expressed his confidence in the supply of armored and combat aircraft from the West to Ukrainedespite the reluctance of some amid fears of an escalation of the conflict.
“That concern about the next level of escalation, for me, is a kind of protocol”he said, dismissing fears that the supply of new weapons could be seen as a challenge by the Russia.
“Ukraine and the armed forces of Ukraine have become members of NATO. “De facto”, not ΄΄de jure” (by law), he declared, “because we have the weapons and the knowledge of how to use them” he added.
“Is true. It is a fact,” he added, without seeing “why” these statements might be controversial. “I am sure that, in the near future, we will become a member of NATO de jure,” he said.
On the field, the situation in Solentar is “very difficult” but “under control”, he added, explaining that the mercenaries of the Wagner organization are being used in “one wave after another” of attack, which leads to many deaths. The organization “must somehow prove that it is better than the regular army of the Russian Federation”he added.
According to Ukraine’s defense minister, “around 500 or 600” Russian fighters are being killed every day in the country, which he says is losing a tenth of that number, claims that could not be independently confirmed.
