Ukrainian drones damage Russian Black Sea Fleet patrol ship in Crimea

Ukrainian maritime drones damaged a Russian Black Sea Fleet patrol vessel off the Russian-annexed Ukrainian peninsula CrimeaUkraine's military intelligence services announced today.

In a post on the Telegram messaging app, they say their special forces unit Group 13 attacked the Russian Black Sea Fleet patrol ship Sergey Kotov near the Kerch Strait.

Train traffic was temporarily halted on the bridge connecting the Crimean peninsula with Russian territory, according to the Telegram account of a Russian-appointed official in Crimea.

Highway traffic was also suspended for a few hours before being allowed again shortly before 09:00 Greek time, according to a Telegram account of the Russian-appointed operator of the bridge.

Reuters has not yet been able to independently confirm this information. The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet responded to a Reuters request for comment.

Ukraine's armed forces announced last month that they had destroyed a Russian amphibious warship near Crimea in an operation with naval drones that caused a breach in one side of its hull, causing it to sink.

At the same time, Roman Starovoit, the governor of Russia's Kursk region, on the border with Ukraine, announced today that a train station in his region was targeted by gunshots, which did not cause injuries.

The Gluchkovo railway station was targeted by strikes from the Ukrainian side, says Starovoit in his post on Telegram, clarifying that the attack “did not cause injuries”.

The strikes caused a fire that was quickly brought under control and damage to high-voltage lines, causing a power outage at the Gluchkovo station and the nearby village of Kulbaki, according to the same source.

Alongside The Russian Defense Ministry announced today that it shot down three Ukrainian drones overnight over the Belgorod region, which is also on the border with Ukraine.

Since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in February 2022, Russian territory has been a frequent target of strikes and drone attacks attributed to Kiev.
