Ukrainian drones hit Russian oil refinery, says regional government

The governor of the region russian of Samara said, this Saturday (16), that drones Ukrainians hit two Rosneft oil refineries. The episode left no victims, but caused a fire in one of the facilities.

Governor Dmitry Azarov said in a statement published on the messaging app Telegram that the Syzran refinery, in the Volga River region, was on fire, but that an attack on the Novokuibyshevsk refinery would have been thwarted.

He added that workers at both factories were evacuated and there were no casualties.

Images published online that could not be verified by Reuters show what appears to be a large fire at the Syzran refinery, with emergency services working at the site.

In recent weeks, Ukraine has heavily attacked Russia's oil infrastructure, hitting refineries across the European part of the country.

Russia is holding three-day presidential elections this Saturday, with President Vladimir Putin on Friday accusing Ukraine of trying to sabotage the polls that it will certainly win.
