Peace talks between Ukraine and Russia have failed to yield any results due to Russia’s insistence on dialogue between Ukraine and the breakaway People’s Republics in the east of the country, the Ukrainian foreign minister said, according to Reuters.
“Russia insists that Ukraine engage in a direct dialogue with the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk democracies,” said Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
“If Ukraine agrees to this, then Russia will become a mediator in the conflict. That is why we do not accept it.”
Ukrainian and Russian officials met in the German capital on Thursday to discuss ending the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
