Ukrainian journalist who worked for Fox News killed in attack

Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova, 24, who worked as a freelance consultant for the US Fox News channel, was killed in the same attack that killed cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski, when the vehicle they were in was hit by a bombing last Monday (14), according to the network this Tuesday (15).

“In our effort to keep you updated on yesterday’s tragic events, we wanted to inform you that journalist Oleksandra ‘Sasha’ Kuvshynova was also killed alongside our cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski when her vehicle was caught in a fire yesterday while out in the field with Benjamin Hall,” said Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott.

“Sasha was just 24 years old and was serving as a consultant for us in Ukraine. She was helping our teams navigate Kiev and the surrounding area while gathering information and speaking to sources. She was incredibly talented and spent weeks working directly with our entire team there, operating 24 hours a day to make sure the world knew what was happening in her country,” she continued.

The information was confirmed by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, also stating that the channel correspondent Benjamin Hall survived the attack, but lost part of his leg.

Andriy Nebitov, chief of police for the Kiev region, said Russian forces had shot at Renaud, adding that “the occupiers cynically kill even international media journalists who try to tell the truth about the atrocities of the Russian military in Ukraine”.

Press freedom groups have denounced the violence journalists are facing while covering the war. The Committee to Protect Journalists, after Renaud’s death, called on Russian forces to “stop all violence against journalists and other civilians at once”.
