Ukrainian military claims to have repelled Russian advances in several cities

The Ukrainian military managed to stop Russian advances towards the Donetsk cities of Avdiivka and Bakhmut, as well as near the city of Kharkiv, the Ukrainian General Staff said on Wednesday.

“[A Rússia] tried to advance in the areas of the settlements of Bakhmut, Kodema, Spirne, Yakovlivka and Soledar with offensive and assault actions, was unsuccessful, withdrew,” the general staff said. “The enemy carried out offensive actions in the directions of Avdiivka and Pisky, received a dignified repulsion and withdrew.”

The General Staff said Russia continued to use artillery to try to attack Ukrainian lines.

“In order to move Ukrainian units from the occupied borders, the enemy used barrels, rocket artillery and tanks,” he said, accusing Moscow of attacking civilian infrastructure.

Reconnaissance with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and some air strikes were also reported on the eastern frontline.

The Ukrainian military said Russian forces also tried to advance into certain positions around Kharkiv to “improve their tactical position” but failed.

“Ukrainian soldiers inflicted significant losses on the invaders and forced them to flee,” he said. “In the direction of Kharkiv, the enemy actively conducted aerial reconnaissance by UAVs. It dedicates significant efforts to improve the logistical support of the units operating in this direction.”

On the southern flank, Russian forces continued to focus on defending their positions with occasional air and ground reconnaissance attacks, the General Staff concluded.
