Ukrainian military says Russians are withdrawing from Kharkiv

Ukraine’s military said in a brief update on Friday that Russian forces were focused on securing the withdrawal of troops from the northern Kharkiv region. These soldiers are under increasing pressure from Ukrainian counterattacks along a broad front to the west of their supply lines.

The fierce Ukrainian counter-coup recovered several villages in the area east of Kharkiv. The country’s advances threaten to push Kremlin forces back to their own border, while also posing the strategic threat of cutting Russia’s supply lines to Ukraine and invading forces further south in the Donbass region.

This advance also revealed more evidence of apparent Russian atrocities, according to a team from the CNN on site.

The General Staff also reported more shelling at the border away from the current area of hostilities, in the northeastern region of Sumy – as well as an airstrike on a village in the region.

In eastern Ukraine, the General Staff said there had been more artillery shelling from Ukrainian-held territory as the Russians tried to advance towards Sloviansk in the Donetsk region, a key objective. The village of Nova Dmytrivka was attacked, according to the government, as it has been doing since late April.

He also highlighted that there had been airstrikes around Dolyna, which is 20 kilometers north of Sloviansk and in the vicinity of Adamivka. This type of offensive damaged two religious sites earlier this week in the area, according to Ukrainian officials.

In the Luhansk region, the General Staff claimed that a Russian attack on the city of Zolote had been repulsed.
