Ukrainian minister denies consensus and sees “difficult negotiations” with Russia

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Friday that peace talks with Russia were difficult and denied reports that progress had been made on resolving four of the six key issues.

“There is no consensus with Russia on the four points,” Kuleba said in a Facebook post. “The negotiation process is very difficult. The Ukrainian delegation has taken a strong stance and does not give up its demands. We insist, first and foremost, on a ceasefire, guarantees of security and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

Kuleba referred to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s comments that there had been progress on four of six key points in the negotiations, citing Ukraine’s withdrawal from joining NATO and the adoption of Russian as the country’s official language as two of those points that evolved into the agreement.

On Thursday (24), the UN General Assembly passed a resolution blaming Russia for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and “strongly encourages”, “continuous negotiations between all parties, and urges once again an immediate peaceful resolution the conflict between Russia and Ukraine through political dialogue, negotiation, mediation and other peaceful means, “among others.
