Russia and Ukraine will hold a third round of talks on Monday on ending bombings against their Russian neighbour, Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamiya said in a Facebook post on Saturday, without providing further details. Russia has yet to comment on the new date.
On Thursday, the sides agreed to open humanitarian corridors to allow civilians out of some combat zones, although implementation delays have occurred.
After the second meeting of talks on Thursday between Russia and Ukraine ended without an agreement, the countries agreed on humanitarian corridors – places that would not be targets of Russian attacks and would serve for the passage of refugees and resources. This Saturday there was an attempt to evacuate civilians from the cities of Volnovakha and both in southeastern Ukraine.
The rounds to discuss the ceasefire of the war that has been going on since February 24 in Eastern Europe.
“We discussed three points extensively – military, international and humanitarian, and the third is a matter of future political regulation of the conflict. Both positions are clear and written. We managed to reach an agreement on some of them, but the main one we reached agreement on today was the rescue of civilians who found themselves in a military confrontation zone”, declared the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky.
“The Russian and Ukrainian defense ministries have agreed to provide humanitarian corridors for civilians and a possible temporary ceasefire in areas where evacuation is taking place,” it continued.
Negotiations are carried out by a Russian and a Ukrainian diplomatic team and try to secure a ceasefire in Belarus. According to the AFP agency, the Russian army will create a security corridor for Ukrainian diplomats. Vladimir Putin sent five men and Volodymyr Zelensky sent six. The 11 will be sitting at the table to try to reach an agreement. Among those chosen are a politician who has been involved in a sex scandal, an adviser who believes that Russians have an extra chromosome, a famous lawyer, a polyglot and a politician who likes to appear wearing a cap.
