Russian troops are approaching Ukraine’s nuclear plant in Zaporizhia and have fired rockets at the facility, Vadim Denizhenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister, said on Saturday, according to Reuters.
Russia has already seized the decommissioned Chernobyl plant, about 100 kilometers north of the Ukrainian capital.
Ukraine’s nuclear service announced on Friday that it had increased levels of radioactivity from the site of the inactive Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Experts from the Ukrainian service did not provide exact data on the levels of radioactivity, but stressed that the increase is due to the movement of heavy military equipment in the area that lifts the radioactive dust.
