The general secretary of the Ukrainian presidency said yesterday that Kyiv must end the war with Russia before winter comes.
Otherwise, Andriy Yermak told Ukrainian news agency Interfax, Russia could destroy energy infrastructure and heating systems.
The Russian military is already hitting infrastructure, he warned. “This is one of the reasons we want (…) the war to end around the end of autumn.”
The war in Ukraine began on February 24 and is about to complete six months.
According to Mr Yermak, the Ukrainian army is doing everything it can to recapture territories under the control of the Russian armed forces. The more the Russian army fortifies its positions, the more difficult the task of the Kiev troops becomes, he acknowledged.
The Russian military holds about a fifth of Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.
There is no indication today that talks will begin soon to end the armed conflict through negotiations.
