A small Ukrainian service dog, known as a “Patron”, received a medal directly from Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The animal has been actively working with Ukrainian forces, identifying bombs. Since the start of the invasion, Patron is estimated to have detected more than 200 explosives.
During a press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Zelensky paid tribute to the animal and its owner, who works for the country’s Civil Protection Service.
In a video published in early April by the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security under Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, the little caramel-white animal is seen in action, sniffing the ground and helping the team identify the war artifacts.
