Ukrainian presidential adviser warns days ahead ‘will not be easy’

Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych said heavy fighting was still expected in eastern Ukraine. UkraineClose of Mariupol and in the south of the country. He warned that the military effort “will not be easy” in these regions.

“I think we will retake Mariupol, eastern Ukraine and the south,” he said. “But – listen carefully – it won’t be easy there.”

Arestovych and other senior Ukrainian officials have increased calls in recent days for the United States and its allies to deliver more heavy weapons.

Speaking during his daily briefing, Arestovych said the military’s main directions on the final day were in the Kiev region, where Ukrainian troops had recaptured more than 30 settlements from Russian control.

“We seized a lot of empty equipment, without fuel, and transferred it to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he said. “In other words, the offensive is going well.”

Arestovych – who gives regular briefings on Ukrainian television – also urged people to get back to normal life.

“In areas that are liberated from the enemy, which do not pose an immediate threat, and even more so in cities in central and western Ukraine or in eastern and central Ukraine, where there is no immediate threat, economic recovery is key to restoring the normal social and political life, even psychological life.
