The online systems of the Ukrzalizanysia state railway company were the target of a large-scale cyber attack, the railroad said on Monday (24).
Traffic traffic has been stable and is working without delays, he said on Telegram. The work to restore online systems is underway on the last day.
The railway said it will sell offline tickets on Monday before backups are recovered after what it called the “systemic, non-trivial and multilevel attack.”
After the Russian invasion in 2022 and the closure of airspace over Ukraine, the trains became the main means of transport for domestic and international passengers.
The railroads carried about 20 million people and 148 million tons of cargo last year, explained Ukrainian vice-minister Oleksiy Kuleba in December.
The interruption was reported for the first time on Sunday (23), when UkrzalizNytsia notified its users about the IT system failure and told passengers to buy tickets on site or on trains.
