“It’s a historic moment”

It’s a historic moment, but other actions will soon be launched in the US and the UK,” he said.

The Wagner organization has been suspected for years by Westerners of doing the Kremlin’s dirty work in various businesses, something Moscow has always denied.

However, Prigozhin, a businessman close to the Kremlin, admitted in late September that he founded Wagner in 2014, calling the organization “pillar» defense of Russian interests.

His presence in Ukraine dates back to 2014, when his men were reported to be on the side of pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part of the country. Without having a particular presence at the start of it Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Wagner’s mercenaries, according to experts, have now become an indispensable element of the Russian army, which has suffered significant defeats in recent weeks.

The mercenaries whose presence has been documented for eight years in Syria in support of the Assad regime, and in Libya, are also present, particularly in the Central African Republic and Mali, where they are regularly accused of abuses against civilian populations.
