Germany’s decision to send heavy weapons to Ukraine is now entering a new phase. More than sixty Ukrainian soldiers, experts and translators have already arrived in complete secrecy at the German Army Artillery School in Indar Oberstein in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate to be trained in German armored, self-propelled howitzers.
In order to strengthen Ukraine’s defense against the Russian attack, Germany and the Netherlands are sending a total of twelve armored artillery pieces, each of which requires five specially trained soldiers for its operation. According to information, the training of Ukrainian soldiers will last about 40 days.
“A Russian victory can be prevented”
According to the Bundeswehr, this type of machine gun can achieve up to 2000 targets within a range of 30 kilometers. The crew can fire up to six shells at a time, in such a way that they hit more than one target at a time. Experts believe that these are the most modern shelling systems in the world, with the main advantage being accuracy and a wide range of action.
Military analysts also estimate that with these weapons systems, combined with the improvement of reconnaissance systems, the Ukrainian army can achieve significant results. Many even believe that the delivery of artillery shells to Ukraine could determine the outcome of the war, preventing a Russian victory. This is what German Chancellor Olaf Soltz says at every opportunity, that “Putin should not win this war.”
“Shadows” for the armed forces and the government
But there is a shadow: the recent opinion of the German Parliament’s Scientific Service, according to which the training of Ukrainian soldiers on German soil may constitute Germany’s participation in the war.
Finally, a second shadow for the German armed forces concerns the German Minister of Defense, Christine Lambrecht, who is currently being criticized on the occasion of her son’s recent trip by military aircraft – reports in the German press speak for more similar trips in the past, but for a fee. A case of “you scandal”, which even if everything went smoothly, puts the German government in a difficult position, at a time when it has to deal with critical security issues against the backdrop of Ukraine.
