Ukrainian soldiers say Russian drones pose “enormous threat”

Ukrainian artillery personnel on the Kharkiv front line face a greater threat than ever from Russian kamikaze drones, agents on the Ukrainian front line said on Thursday (16).

A young 21-year-old commander of an artillery battery, known as “Artist”, called Russian Lancet drones “a huge threat”, adding that there could be one to five drones in the air at the same time.

This Artist assessment only refers to the area where he is, as this number of drones in the air can be much greater in other parts of the battlefield.

The Russian Army has made incursions of several kilometers north of the Kharkiv region since Friday (10), forcing Ukrainian troops, who are outnumbered, to try to maintain the defense line.

In addition to devastating frontline settlements and dealing a blow to Ukraine's morale, the Russian push into Kharkiv is a problem for Ukrainian strategists as its troops are already spread across a line of more than 1,000 kilometers.

“Artist” said it was not clear whether the Russians wanted to put pressure on the city of Kharkiv or divert attention from an operation in the eastern Donetsk region.

In a statement released this Thursday (16), the Ukrainian General Staff warned that Russia was carrying out the most intense attacks near the cities of Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk, in the eastern region of Donetsk, where the Russian offensive has been relentless for months.
