French President Emmanuel Macron had a one-hour, 40-minute telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin today in an attempt to defuse tensions in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, Elize reported.
The telephone conversation, which began at 12.30pm French time, was preceded by a communication that is expected to take place later today between US President Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin.
The Elysee is expected to provide information later on about the Macron-Putin conversation, which had already been held for more than 5 hours on Monday in the Kremlin. Emanuel Macron then traveled to Kiev on Tuesday for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, then to Berlin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov did not provide further details on the call.
